DAVE Turner is targeting another major upset when his Wootton Bassett side entertain Shortwood United in the SBJ Challenge Cup tomorrow.

Bassett have toppled several sides from higher rungs of the football ladder this season, and Turner is hoping to add Shortwood to their list of cup victims.

The visitors are poised to go top of the Premier Division however, and the Bassett boss has warned his players to expect their sternest test yet.

He said: “We’ve had some good wins in the cup so far this season, but we know we will be huge underdogs on Saturday.

“Shortwood are a quality side and it will take another big performance to turn them over. We have had some joy against teams from leagues above, but we have also suffered some big losses.

“The 4-0 defeat at Wimborne in the FA Vase was a harsh lesson, but hopefully the players took something from it.

“As long as they give me 100 per cent I cannot ask any more than that.”

Steve Yeardley is the only notable absentee for tomorrow’s last 16 clash at Rylands Way, with Bassett eyeing another Premier Division scalp.

The manager admits he is “frustrated” to be missing out on One West action yet again, but knows the result could be a barometer for future league success.

He said: “We keep falling behind on our league games, which is annoying, but I would rather play a top side like Shortwood any day.

“It gives you the chance to measure yourselves against better players to show my boys what they should be aiming for.

“We are going out there to win, but the main thing is that we compete and let them know they have been in a game.”

While Bassett cross swords with Shortwood, rivals Malmesbury Vics will be hoping to steal a march on them with victory against Easington Sports.

Game of the day in One West however is arguably the clash between Hardwicke and Chris Purton’s Pethick, who are still clinging to the coat tails of the leading group.

Elsewhere basement side Cirencester United travel to Letcombe, and Cricklade visit Holyport in the preliminary round of the Supplementary Cup.
