IAIN Harvey will be hoping to put one over on one of his closest footballing friends when Chippenham travel to rivals Mangotsfield United tomorrow.

Former Bluebirds striker Paul Milsom has taken the reins at Cossham Street this season, and Harvey is looking forward to renewing acquaintances on derby day.

The Chippenham captain expects a typically fast and furious encounter in what he has labelled the first “six-pointer” of the season for his side.

“Paul Milsom is a top bloke and a good friend of mine, but I want to spoil his day on Saturday,” admitted Harvey.

“He has been around the game for a long time and played a decent level, so he will know exactly what he wants from his team. He’s a big character and the sort of manager you want to give your best for, so we know we’re in for a tough time.

“We really can’t afford to lose any more ground on the teams above us, so this is a massive match.”

Chippenham’s season to date has been blighted by inconsistency, with recent budget cuts forcing manager Adie Mings to try and off-load some of high earners.

Centre back Cortez Belle has been one of those linked with a move away from Hardenhuish Park, but with an FA suspension now hanging over him, potential suitors Halesowen may look elsewhere.

Harvey insists the speculation has not affected team morale however, and says everyone in the squad is “pulling in the same direction”.

“The spirit of this team has never been in question,” said Harvey.

“Ever since I came to Chippenham that was the one thing that always stood out for me, how together the boys were.

“We can do nothing about the budget cuts or the transfer rumours. All we can do is focus on this next game and try to take the three points.”

Cirencester Town will be hoping to put Wednesday’s night’s GX Cup defeat at Supermarine behind them when they host AFC Totton at the Corinium Stadium.

Bryan Hughes’ men have won just three of their eight games on home soil to date, a record they will looking to improve on this weekend.
