WATFORD striker Theo Robinson is expected to become a Town player by the end of the month, the Swindon Advertiser can exclusively reveal.

Three clubs - Town, Southend, and an unnamed League One outfit - are chasing the pacey frontman, but Swindon boss Danny Wilson is believed to be in pole position to land the 20-year-old.

Robinson’s representatives are remaining tight-lipped about any potential deal, but the Advertiser understands County Ground chiefs are well advanced in their negotiations for the youngster, with a fee between £100,000 and £150,000 already agreed that includes future add-ons based on appearances and promotion.

The Birmingham-born player is currently abroad for around two weeks, so while a fee and terms can be agreed between Swindon and Watford, no medical can take place until his return.

Once back in the country, the deal will gather pace and the striker should be a Swindon player by start of pre-season training in July.

Town manager Wilson has already added centre-back Gordon Greer and goalkeeper David Lucas to his ranks - both on free transfers - during the close season, and Robinson will be an impressive third piece in his County Ground rebuilding plans.

Having released frontmen Blair Sturrock, Barry Corr, Ben Joyce and Hamdi Razak at the end of the season, Swindon are left with just Simon Cox and Billy Paynter up top, but the capture of Robinson would provide them with a young player full of pace, power and potential.

His chances at Vicarage Road have been limited following a debut in the Championship against QPR aged just 17. Robinson also played for the Hornets in the Premier League against Newcastle, but has made just six appearances during his time at Vicarage Road.

The youngster spent the 2007/08 season on loan at Hereford, scoring 16 goals as they gained promotion from League Two.

Robinson then notched seven for Southend during a four-month temporary spell at Roots Hall last term.

Watford are currently managerless following Brendan Rodgers’ departure for Reading last week, but sources close to the Hertfordshire-based club claim that will not stop Robinson leaving for Wiltshire.
