LOCKING horns with arguably League One’s deadliest marksman would be enough to strike fear into most defenders, but Town skipper Gordon Greer is relishing tomorrow’s battle with Grant Holt.

The Norwich front man has already fired 10 goals to help the Canaries rise steadily up the table, and they currently lie sixth, only ahead of Swindon on goal difference.

Holt is a player bang on form at the moment, but Greer is looking forward to the challenge and is confident of silencing the former Nottingham Forest and Shrewsbury striker.

“I’ve seen him a few times and he’s a good player,” admitted Town’s centre-back.

“That’s why we play football - to test ourselves against the best.

“Every game we go in to we think we are good enough to stop anybody, but it’s not just a case of our defence against their strikers - it’s a team game and we need to defend from the front.

“It’s then up to me and Scott as the last line of the defence to do our best against him.

“All the big clubs like Norwich, Leeds and Southampton have got quality players, but we’ve got some quality players here ourselves.

“It’s a good test for myself and the rest of the defence that we are playing against one of the best strikers in the league. But at the same time we think we are good players.”

Town go into the game without the suspended Jonathan Douglas and Lloyd Macklin, who is still sidelined with a fractured leg, while Alan O’Brien is unlikely to be risked as he continues his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury.

A crowd of around 23,000 is expected at Carrow Road for the encounter, leaving Greer and his colleagues excited at the prospect of turning over one of the division’s most fancied sides.

“It’s going to be a tough game, but one that every player in the dressing room will be looking forward to,” said the defender.

“We’ve had some good tests already this season and it’s another one of those. Norwich only got relegated this year and are tipped for big things, so it’s a good gauge for us to see how we come up against them.

“Every player wants to play in big grounds and in front of as many people as possible, and we are no different.

“We’re really looking forward to it, but at the same time we know we’ve got a job to do and will be going there trying to win the game.”
