DANNY Wilson has urged his Town players to ‘smell the area finals’, insisting they can knock the Canaries off their perch this evening.

Swindon entertain League One high-flyers Norwich in the southern section quarter-finals of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, knowing a victory would leave them almost within touching distance of a showpiece Wembley final.

The boss believes tonight’s clash is a mouth-watering prospect, and has every faith Town will triumph for their second cup success in four days.

“This will be a major test for us,” Wilson told the Advertiser.

“It promises to be a cracking game and I would like to think there will be a decent crowd here with quite a lot riding on it.

“Now and again you get a tie which whets the appetite and I think that Swindon against Norwich does just that. It looks like a terrific fixture with a lot riding on it, because we are very close to the area final.

“We’ve got to be able to smell that and have the ambition to go as far as we possibly can. We can get through the tie but it will be a hard game.

“We’re not taking this competition lightly and want to progress as far as we can. When you are playing against a team of Norwich’s calibre you can’t afford to anyway.

“We want to go as far as we can and there will be minimum changes. We will put a strong team out.”

“If we manage to get a good result against Norwich and get through the tie then it will have been a very good week for us. Progressing in two cups is what we set out to try and achieve.”

Tope Obadeyi will play his final game for Swindon as his three-month loan spell from Bolton comes to an end, and Wilson was full of praise for the youngster’s performances in his time at the County Ground.

“I think he’s done very well at times and was unfortunate to pick up that (hamstring) injury when he did,” said the manager.

“There are flashes there and he’s a very young boy with a lot to offer. I would like to work with him until the end of the season but unfortunately we aren’t able to bring him back.”
