TOWN are sweating on the fitness of key midfielders Anthony McNamee and Simon Ferry ahead of tonight’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area quarter-final tie with Norwich.

The duo picked up shoulder and ankle injuries respectively in Saturday’s win over Woking and are now waiting on the results to determine their involvement in the clash.

If unavailable, Tope Obadeyi or Callum Kennedy are likely to deputise for McNamee, while 15-year-old Alex Henshall could be a surprise inclusion having caught the eye of numerous Premier League sides already.

Wilson said: “McNamee and Simon haven’t trained today and are having scans - Anthony on his shoulder and Simon on his ankle.

“It’s precautionary more than anything. We think they will be okay but we will assess them again in the morning (Tuesday).

“If there’s any doubt they won’t be risked but if the scans are fine then there will be no problem at all because both boys will want to play.”

David Lucas misses out through a sickness bug, and has been kept away from the County Ground to avoid the risk of infecting the rest of the squad, so Phil Smith will continue to deputise in goal.

Lecsinel Jean-Francois returns from suspension along with midfielder Jonathan Douglas, who has sat out the last four games following his red card against Millwall.

“It’s good for us because we have missed Jonathan, there’s no doubt about that,” admitted Wilson of the Irishman.

“With all due respect to the boys who have played, but he is a big player for us and why we brought him in the first place is the reasons that we’ve missed him.

“Jonathan himself is champing at the bit to be out there. Training every day and not having a game at the end of it is quite frustrating, but thankfully he is back and will definitely play.”
