SWINDON Town’s youth team manager Paul Bodin is hoping his talented young side can recreate their first round performance and dispose of Leyton Orient in the second round of the FA Youth Cup at the County Ground tonight.

Two weeks ago, Bodin watched on from the touchline as the next generation of Robins overwhelmed Yeovil Town 6-0 with a combination of free-flowing attacking football, clinical finishing and teamwork.

Now Bodin has set his sights on further progression - victory tonight would set up a juicy tie with Milton Keynes Dons in the third round. But the former Wales international insists that his squad will not be taking tonight’s opposition lightly.

“Orient haven’t won a lot of games this season,” he said. “But they’ve drawn the majority.”

“They don’t get beaten very often and they’re a tough nut to crack.

“They’re a big physical team and we will have to battle with them.”

Should Town’s Under 18s reproduce their first round form then Orient will have a handful to deal with. Quick on the counter attack and always looking to use to speed and crossing ability of Matt Barnes on the right and Josh Parsons on the left, Swindon looked a potent threat a fortnight ago.

And Bodin maintains that that is the style he is looking to instill permanently in his side.

“That’s how we like to play,” he said. “We like to get it out to our wide men and test the opposition.”

Billy Bodin will not be available for the clash as he is on duty with Wales, whilst Tom Ryan’s achilles injury keeps him out of the matchday squad.

But wonderkid Alex Henshall is expected to feature in some part, and his name amongst others has attracted a host of scouts for the fixture.

Bodin expects representatives from at least 10 different clubs to be present at the game - offering a tremendous chance for Town’s youngsters to impress.

“The spotlight is there for them,” conceded Bodin. “It gives them all a great opportunity.

“The manager and the staff came and watched the last game as well and hopefully they’ll do the same tonight.

“It is great to see the boys having a game at the County Ground and hopefully they can replicate their performance against Yeovil.”

The Town legend has called on fans to go down to the stadium this evening to see the potential stars of tomorrow.

“They are the next generation for us,” he said. “It would be great to get a good vocal backing behind them. We were delighted to see how many came for the first round game, and maybe we can have a few more tonight.”
