WILTSHIRE put in their best performance of the season to defeat high-flying Leicestershire in their latest county darts fixture at the Phoenix Bar, Wootton Bassett.

After Heather Lane put Wiltshire one up, the next three games were Leicestershire wins with defeats for Kim Simpson, Jan Murphy and Norma Gould.

Ally Harrison and lady of the match Jill Little then levelled the Ladies B section at 3-3.

David Gould and Terry Smith got Wiltshire off to a great start before heavy defeats for Antony Gray and Clive Taylor levelled the scores again.

Paul Boulton and Chris Bailey scored good wins before defeats for Rob Higginson, Steve Venn and Garry Ellis turned the game to 8-7 in Leicestershire’s favour.

However Wiltshire rallied, and with wins for Pete Harris, Bob Phillips and man of the match Richard Ettiwell, the score stood at 10-8 to Wiltshire at the end of the day.

Wiltshire A ladies were very impressive and took the opening five matches with great performances from Erica Hartnett, Karen Hutton, Rachel Hutton, Jo Hooke and lady of the match Tina Rowlands. Ann Paget cursed missed doubles which denied Wiltshire a deserved clean sweep.

Juan Hopkins took the opening Men’s A match before Richie Jones lost 3-2 in a high scoring second match. Steve Willard then took a terrific third match before further wins for Dave Wicks and Ron Ashton made the score 19-10 to Wiltshire.

Lee Evans was defeated before Tony Clark took the seventh game. John Newlands never got going before an impressive Lee Hussey victory, and despite surprising defeats for Mick Duggan and Chris Aubrey, it didn’t matter too much as Chris Daglish took the final match.

This meant a 22-14 victory for Wiltshire and with a further three wins points in the bag, Wiltshire scored big points against one of their biggest rivals.

The next game is away at Pembrokeshire on the weekend of March 6 and 7.
