TOWN will consider making a move for Matt Ritchie during the summer, as they look to bring the winger back to the County Ground.

Ritchie had spent six weeks on loan at Swindon before being recalled by parent club Portsmouth on Friday morning, and the 21-year-old sat on the bench for the Premier League's basement side as they were beaten by Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Danny Wilson tried to land Ritchie, pictured left, on a permanent deal in January before having to settle for a temporary move, and Town's boss revealed he wants the youngster to return.

“We were very disappointed, yes, but it was understandable really,” he told the Advertiser about Ritchie's recall. “Portsmouth wanted a 24-hour recall on him, so you just have to adhere to it.

“We were very lucky to have him in the first place, and although we persevered with it, we were lucky to get him and thank Portsmouth for that.

“But their needs are the most important and they have a say on the future of the boy.

“Of course we are disappointed, but he's been on the bench at White Hart Lane, so it's a big step for him.

“He'll enjoy it. There's a possibility he might play next week and they've got an FA Cup semi-final coming up which he may be part of, so it's great from his point of view.

“But I will certainly persevere in the summer and try to get him back, yes.”
