SWINDON are expected to complete the double signing of David Prutton and Michael Rose by the end of next week, the Swindon Advertiser can reveal.

The duo have both been linked with County Ground switches this week, but sources close to the club have indicated that deals for both players have been done and the pair will be officially unveiled once they and Town boss Danny Wilson have returned from their respective holidays.

Midfielder Prutton is out of contract following the expiry of his six-month contract at Colchester, while left-back Rose should not command a fee either after moving from relegated and cash-strapped Stockport County.

And they will plug important gaps in the Swindon squad left by loanees Simon Ferry and Alan Sheehan, who returned to their parent clubs at the end of the season.

The Advertiser understands Prutton has rejected moves to both Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton in favour of a switch to the County Ground.

The 28-year-old is close friends with Swindon goalkeeper David Lucas and vice-captain Jonathan Douglas from their time together at Leeds, which will have no doubt influenced his decision, but Wilson is known to be a keen admirer of Prutton who will add physical presence and creativity to the middle of the park.

Town tried to sign Rose, 27, last year but the full-back stayed put at Edgeley Park before moving to League One champions Norwich on loan in January.

He made 11 appearances during that spell, playing a key role in helping them claim the title, but the Canaries opted against making his deal permanent, and so Wilson has swooped.

Meanwhile, the Advertiser also understands that Swindon have three familiar transfer targets to add competition to their right-back spot.

With Kevin Amankwaah already in place, Wilson & Co are waiting on the outcome of Liverpool’s vacant managerial situation before trying to re-capture Stephen Darby on loan.

The 21-year-old put in a series of impressive performances at the tail end of last season to help Town to the League One play-off final.

However, they also have former loan target Paul Caddis and Stockport defender Jonny Mullins in their sight and will move for whoever becomes available first.

Celtic youngster Caddis can play in either defence or midfield, while Wilson attempted to land Mullins on a permanent deal in January and is looking to do the same.
