DANNY Wilson insists he doesn’t always need to move for obvious targets in the loan market, citing Matt Ritchie’s early promise as the perfect example of that theory.

With Charlie Austin sidelined through a dislocated shoulder and Thomas Dossevi away on international duty, Town have seemingly been crying out for a striker to fill their goalscoring void.

And although Wilson was keeping his eye out for a forward, the manager first brought in wide man Ritchie on an initial month’s loan from Portsmouth, changed Swindon’s formation to a 4-3-3 and watched them reap the rewards with encouraging back-to-back wins.

“Matt has given us a real lift and he has been a spark for us,” explained Wilson. “It doesn’t have to be the type of person the fans expect. It doesn’t have to be a 40-goal striker coming in.

“Sometimes it’s other departments which can help the rest of the team, and he has given us a real lift there.

“Matt has got the experience of a Premier League player at the moment. He went with (Portsmouth’s) first team a few times last year, has played in the Championship this season, and the boy can play - there is no doubt about that.

“But he needs to play and that’s why we’ve brought him in. We trust him and think he can develop into a decent player, and he suits how we want to play.”

Meanwhile, teenage centre-back Sean Morrison is rapidly becoming one of League One’s hottest properties after another impressive performance on Monday night.

The 19-year-old scored in Swindon’s victory over Bristol Rovers, where he was watched by Sunderland scout Bernard Paintin, along with a Newcastle representative for the third consecutive league game.

The Advertiser understands Bolton are also keen to cast an eye over Morrison, while QPR assistant Mick Jones was due to be in attendance on Monday night but pulled out at the last minute.
