SWINDON triathlete Emma-Kate Lidbury is gearing up for the Ironman 70.3 series finale this weekend at the World Championship race in Florida.

Lidbury goes into the race with a string of great results behind her, having finished third at both UK 70.3 in June and Antwerp 70.3 in July, and taken a number of domestic wins throughout the season.

Some of the world’s best female endurance athletes will be on the start line on Saturday as they compete over the 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21km run.

“I’m really looking forward to getting out there and racing hard,” said Lidbury.

“My training has been going well and, more than anything, I just want to give it everything and see how well I can do.

“Racing 70.3 is always tough, but I’m expecting this one to be tougher than most. It’s still early days in my professional career so it’ll be interesting racing against girls who have been at the top of the sport for years.”

The Wiggle-sponsored athlete, who has been in the States since the start of the month, added: “I’m hugely grateful to Wiggle for all the help and support they have given me this season.

“I wouldn’t have been able to train or prepare for this race in the way I have without their help, loyalty and generosity.

“I also owe massive thanks to my other sponsors - Swindon and Cirencester chartered accountants Morris Owen, mobile telecoms company Virtua, CycleOps and Swindon-based sports therapist Rob King.”
