DANNY Wilson is not expecting a defensive game at the County Ground this afternoon, but believes Town have enough firepower to see off Peterborough.

Both sides have relied heavily on their strikers this season to make up for obvious defensive shortcomings, with supporters seeing plenty of action at each end of the pitch.

Swindon manager Wilson knows his side have shown some of their best form at home, and is confident they can pick up all three points should Charlie Austin & Co help get their noses in front.

“(Peterborough) have not been too happy in their defensive work,” he said of today’s opponents.

“But we can both stand either side of each other and say that at this stage. We will be looking to address that situation.

“Gary (Johnson, Peterborough manager) has got a team who can score goals.

“They’ve got arguably three of the most functioning strikers in the league so they’ll be a priority to keep quiet.

“We’ve had the odd blip at home where we haven’t played well and not created, but I think we’re generally quite offensive.

“Should we be able to get our noses in front in games like Peterborough it will give us a real boost.”

Victories over the likes of Southampton, Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday at the County Ground have been cancelled out by disappointing results and performances against Dagenham & Redbridge, Yeovil and Notts County.

And Wilson reiterated his desire to put that inconsistency firmly behind them going into 2011.

“It’s unusual that we’ve had so many good results against them (the top 10) and so many poor ones against the ones that are not expected to do well this season.

“We have to turn that around. We have to be more consistent in all our games, and let’s hope that the second part of the season will bear fruit for us more than the first half has.”

With the January transfer window set to open, Town’s boss explained he is keen to strengthen for the second half of the campaign – both with new targets and existing loanees.

“We are in talks with Man City over David Ball and with Portsmouth (about Matt Ritchie),” said Wilson.

“It’s up to the availability of players, and that changes from week to week. In January somebody could not be available any more.

“We’re not going to start divulging who we’re after, I don’t think that’s sensible. Speculation is always nice, but who they are is another matter.

“But we’re certainly going to be looking to bring people in to give us that support we need if we’re going to get these long, tough periods of football.”
