JOHN Fisher claims there is plenty of time for him to save his Shrivenham side from relegation from the Hellenic League Premier Division.

The Rec outfit are currently third from bottom in the table following their disappointing 1-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Bracknell Town on Tuesday.

Shrivvy, who brought in plenty of playing staff over Christmas and new year, are in dire need of victories if they are to haul themselves out of trouble.

“We’ve got 18 games left,” said Fisher in typical pragmatic fashion.

“If there’s only six games left, then you press the panic button. Our main aim is to finish fifth from bottom, it sounds a bit negative but that’s what we’ve got to do.

“If we can come fifth from bottom we’ve achieved what we set out to do. That’s our objective and we’ll keep striving for that. The players are starting to believe it’s gettable.”

Shrivvy are away to midtable Flackwell Heath in the league tomorrow, a side who often employ an aggressively attacking approach.

And Fisher explained: “They are very good up front. They normally play three forwards who are very busy, but they aren’t quite as good at the back.

“We’ve got to keep them at bay. They do leave three players high, so you just tell the back four that it’s their jobs to pick those three up.”

Elsewhere in the Hellenic Premier tomorrow, Wootton Bassett Town will be hoping for their first league win since November 6 when they host Thame United.

In Division One West, Cricklade Town are away to Letcombe, while lowly Malmesbury Vics face a tough task against Cheltenham Saracens.

Meanwhile, Highworth Town are going after the Wiltshire Senior Cup title they won in 2008/09 as they host Laverstock & Ford in the quarter-final of this season’s competition.

The Worthians are one of the Hellenic Premier’s form sides and their opponents tomorrow currently lie in lower midtable in the Wessex League Premier Division.

Highworth have recently re-signed goalkeeper Adam Miller after he returned to the UK from Canada.

Also in the quarter-final, Purton will be hoping to spring a shock when they meet the higher-ranked Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

Chris Pethick’s Division One West side will be taking on a side currently second in the Wessex Premier.
