FAIRFORD Town boss Tommy Dryden has given his biggest hint yet that he expects his team to play at a lower level next season.

The Gloucestershire outfit, who host midtable Ascot United tomorrow, are currently rock bottom of the Hellenic League Premier Division and are currently 13 points from safety.

“Next season if we go down the players will know what it (the Premier Division) is all about,” said Dryden.

“Hopefully they will learn from it and become better players.”

The boss admitted he would like to bring some older heads in to assist his fledgling side, but has found it difficult to operate in the transfer market with his team struggling at the base of the table.

“We’re a bit naive at times, we’re quite a young side,” he revealed.

“We’re trying to talk to players every week but their sides are midtable and you’re asking them to come and play at the bottom of the league.

“It’s quite hard to try and talk people round and get them to help us. If we get a couple of experienced players in the right areas, it would help us no end.

“Also at the moment we’re waiting for our centre midfielder Lee Clark to come back from injury, that can’t come quick enough for us.”

Consistency in selection has also caused Fairford a problem this season, with Dryden not able to call on the same set of players week after week.

“It’s difficult for us to get any sort of form,” he said. “We haven’t really been able to field the same side twice in a row.

“It’s just trying to get lads in to play week in, week out, although that’s the same for all clubs at times.”
