SWINDON Town’s coaching team have given themselves a performance review in an effort to identify where the Robins are going wrong in League One this term.

Sensational wins over Huddersfield, Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton have shown in flashes the talent at manager Danny Wilson and assistant Peter Shirtliff’s disposal at Town - but such memorable results have been tempered by timid showings against the division’s lesser lights.

And Wilson has said he and his various aides have assessed their methods and instructions as the pursuit of consistency restarts against Yeovil Town at the County Ground tomorrow.

“We have to look at every area from our point of view as management,” he said.

“We have to think about what we’re doing wrong because obviously we’re not doing something right.

“If we are then we address ourselves first, the first port of call is ourselves.

“We’ve changed one or two things in that area, let’s hope it works. The quality of the players when we’re on song is as good as anything in the league but we haven’t been consistent.”

Wilson refused to be drawn into revealing which aspects of Swindon’s training routine had been adapted, but he made a pledge to Town fans - ‘we will improve.’ “That (the change in training) is of no concern to yourself. It’s something we work on in training ourselves and that remains private.

“You can guarantee we will get better in that area as we go along.

“We’ve changed things round a bit and focused on certain things we want to do, and not gone on to other areas which we would normally do throughout the week.

“It’s been a focus on one particular so things have changed slightly.”

Meanwhile, the Robins boss persisted with the notion that League One remains too hard to call, and that either his side or tomorrow’s visiting Glovers have the potential to make an impact at the other end of the table.

“There’s only one, maybe two teams standing out again like there was last year,” he said.

“Southampton and Brighton look like the teams to be caught at this stage, but they will be caught and they will be clawed back like they were last season.

“People will laugh at that statement but it will be true. They will come back into the pack.

“There will be teams who you don’t expect to be up there who will be challenging.

“They (Yeovil) are improving and, like I’ve said before, all teams are there to beat each other.”

And Wilson is hopeful he may have a new recruit or two on board to help Town on their quest for stability in the second half of 2010/11.

“We’re not bringing in anyone at this moment in time but I’d like to think after the weekend something will be afoot,” he said.

“We’ve got a list as long as your arm, but being able to get them in is another matter.

“After the weekend I think things will be a little bit clearer as to what’s going to be available to us.

“There’s a few who I wouldn’t say are very close to coming in, but we’ve got our fingers on the pulse with them.

“We’ve targeted two or three areas so, with a bit of lucky, we can bring people in to fill those positions.”

Andy Frampton is a major doubt for the fixture, with the centre-back struggling to recover from a groin strain picked up in the 2-0 defeat at Oldham Athletic last Saturday. The club rate him as 50-50.

David Lucas’ knee issues will rule the goalkeeper out for at least another fortnight, but left-back Alan Sheehan should be available for selection after overcoming hamstring difficulties.
