HIGHWORTH Town boss Dave Webb admits he is concerned that fatigue could affect his players’ performances in the latter half of the season.

Following the enforced winter break due to the weather at the end of last year, the Worthians’ fixtures have piled up.

And they could still have up to two games to play in the Wiltshire Senior Cup in addition to a possible glut of further matches in the Hellenic League Challenge Cup, the competition in which they take on Shortwood United in round three tomorrow afternoon.

Webb believes he started to see the effects of a busy start to 2011 on Tuesday, as his side went down 2-1 to visiting Kidlington.

“We did look tired towards the end and I think it was a bit of a hangover from Saturday (against Shrivenham) which took a lot out of us,” he revealed.

“That’s the way the league is going to be between now and the end of the season.

“We’re lucky in that we’ve got a reasonable squad of players, and we’re in as good a position as anybody, but I think players will get tired.

“Some players play on a Sunday as well and I don’t care how fit you are, if you’re playing four games in seven days that’s too much for anybody.”

TJ Bohane, Rob Deane and Ritchie Saunders are all doubts for tomorrow’s cup clash with Shortwood, who currently lie sixth in the Hellenic League Premier Division, one spot below Highworth.

“We couldn’t have got a more difficult tie, it’s the biggest tie of the round,” added Webb.

“Both sides will know the importance of the game and I’m sure Shortwood would want to progress.”

Meanwhile, in Division One West, Cricklade Town travel to second-placed Lydney Town and Purton welcome high-flyers Clanfield.

Malmesbury go in search of their second league win of the season as they clash with Winterbourne at the Flying Monk Ground.
