THE pressure will be heaped on Southampton when Swindon come calling tomorrow, according to Robins boss Danny Wilson.

Promotion-chasing Saints have not been beaten at St Mary’s since mid-December whilst Town have taken maximum points on their travels just twice this term.

And with big name players including Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain amongst their ranks, Southampton fans could be forgiven for expecting their side to knock over a team who are without a win in 10 outings.

But Wilson sees things in a different light, insisting Town have the mindset and quality to topple the form-book and rubbish their heavy underdogs tag.

“There’s an enormous amount of pressure on Southampton this year to get promoted, and maybe that can cause one or two little problems,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter when you play Southampton, it’s always a big club with big players.

“It’s always going to be a big challenge no matter what position in the league we’re in. We’ve got nothing to fear. Their reputation is of a big club but they’ve still got to beat us and we’ve had some good results against them in recent times.

“We’d be underdogs whenever we play Southampton, the history of the club will make them favourites in most cases. That won’t make the slightest bit of difference from our point of view.

“Maybe the mindset will be different from their supporters’ point of view, they may expect to roll us over big style, which comes with the territory. But it doesn’t happen all the time.

“I don’t think they’ll underestimate us but we can’t be concerned by what other people perceive us as.”

Recent performances have encouraged Wilson that an elusive win is just around the corner.

And whilst most would agree tomorrow’s test is one of the toughest of the term, the County Ground chief has retained a positive outlook.

“We’re playing fairly well at this moment in time. What’s been lacking is the goals but we’re going down there hopefully, with one or two changes for the weekend, can cause them a few problems.

“We’ve got to go out there and put a tough and resilient display on. We’ll need to if we’re going to get anything.”
