SWINDON starlet Niamh Townsend got the chance to show the Lawn Tennis Association how good she really is when she took part in the sport’s governing body’s national Talent ID Finals at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton recently.

The 10-year-old was one of 100 youngsters from across the south invited to the session after successfully progressing through county and regional Talent ID days to make the final week.

Niamh displayed her skills to an LTA Talent ID team who were aiming to spot future performance players, and was thrilled with the opportunity.

The St Andrews Primary School pupil said: “I had great fun at the regional ID days and today was my first national so was excited to see what I can do.

“I really enjoy the match play the most as it’s always a good standard and good to see what level I’m at against the other players from around the country.”

The day was overseen by LTA Head of Talent Management, Andrew Lewandowski, who was impressed by what he saw.

“Niamh has performed really well and shown lots of ability across a number of different tasks testing qualities including athletic ability, coordination, speed and agility and a real natural talent and love for the sport,” he said.
