NEPALESE teams from all over the UK turned out to compete in the second Swindon Cup at the weekend.

The nine-a-side tournament was organised by the Nepalese Association of Wiltshire and many local players took part, with match officials provided by the Wiltshire FA.

There were two separate sections, with 16 sides competing in the 18 and over section and Mongolian Bhanzaz were the winners.

They beat Plumstead Boys 3-1 in the final and collected £500 and a trophy for their troubles, while Plumstead won £300 and received medals.

In the under 18 section there were eight teams competing and Invicta Boys emerged triumphant having narrowly beaten Gorkhali Bhanzaz 1-0 in the final. The winners collected £300 and a trophy and the runners-up £200 and medals.

The event was organised to increase the fitness and health of its participants and also to generate cash to allow the association to assist Nepalese and local people in need. It is hoped that the tournament, will continue to run on an annual basis.

In addition to the football action, non-competitive volleyball also took place and pupils from Churchfield Primary School performed a cultural show as part of the day.
