PAOLO Di Canio wants two more permanent singings despite seeing his players ease to yet another comfortable pre-season victory over Cirencester at the Corinium Stadium last night.

Although the hosts were once again of a low level it was still pleasing to see the Robins look dominant as a team, with each and every one of the players on the pitch fully aware of their duties.

After a slow start, Town were soon in their stride and goals from Matt Ritchie, Mehdi Kerrouche, Alan Connell and an own goal from Ciren’ keeper Danny Greaves sealed a fourth victory in as many games.

But it was not completely a perfect night, with new signing Etienne Esajas forced off in the first half with a shoulder injury that is expected to keep him out for the start of the season.

Given Esajas' injury record, Di Canio confirmed that he is currently in talks with a player who can cover left wing, as well as a big centre forward he views as the final piece of the jigsaw.

“The player we need can cover all the four positons (left/right wing and left/right back) but with him we wait for the final answer because he is under contract,” Di Canio told the Advertiser.

“At the moment they discuss about this and maybe he can join us in the next few days if his club give him the money to leave, because he has a big contract.”

As promised, Di Canio fielded a strong side last night, but the game got off to a scrappy start with Cirencester clearly determined to stop Town playing, and it took until the 11th minute before the visitors fashioned their first real opportunity of the game.

Esajas, handed his first start in a Town shirt, received the ball just inside the area before cutting inside and wrong-footing a defender, but his low shot was wide.

From then on the Robins started to find their rhythm and the lively Raffaele De Vita was only denied scoring a fourth of pre-season when his point-blank header was punched superbly away Ciren’ keeper Greaves.

Just as Swindon looked to be building towards an opener Esajas – who has been dogged by injury troubles in the past - went down clutching his shoulder following a relatively routine challenge.

After a few minutes of treatment, the Dutch winger was stretchered off and new signing Alan McCormack was brought for his first start for the club.

Minutes later and Town were ahead when De Vita delivered a neat cross for Ritchie to head home from close range.

Ritchie played a key role in Swindon’s second five minutes before the break when he was hauled down on the right side of the area and Callum Kennedy stepped up to whip the resulting free-kick goalwards. The ball struck a Ciren defender before then hitting the back of Greaves to trickle into the net.

Di Canio made three changes at half time, bringing on Aden Flint, Simon Ferry and Kerrouche for Alberto Comazzi, Jonathan Smith and Connell respectively.

And Kerrouche announced his arrival on the pitch with a superb goal 11 minutes into the second half. The French-born Algerian found himself with space some 15 yards from goal and took the opportunity to drive a powerful effort off the underside of the bar and into the back of the net.

With the result now beyond a doubt, Di Canio used the opportunity to give more players some game time with the likes of Billy Bodin, Nathan Thompson and Kevin Amankwaah all coming on at some stage.

And Connell put the icing on the cake when he finished off a lovely move after McCormack found Kerrouche and the striker showed great vision to send Connell clear with a first-time ball and the former Grimsby striker made no mistake. It was certainly a promising display from Town’s strikers, but Di Canio feels they still need to build match fitness to be completey ready for the new season.
