LEON Clarke was involved in a heated dispute with Paolo Di Canio shortly after Swindon's 3-1 defeat to Southampton in the Carling Cup last night.

The former QPR striker appeared to be unhappy following discussions with fitness coach Claudio Donatelli as he made his way towards the tunnel.

Di Canio attempted to diffuse the situation but was pushed away by Clarke, who then went to spend over 15 minutes on the pitch talking with interim chairman Jeremy Wray.

With the transfer window closing tomorrow, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Clarke at Town.

"That it coincides with the transfer window tomorrow is largely irrelevant, the main thing is we find out what happened, see how the player feels and the manager feels," said Wray.

"I have spoken to Paolo and he is frustrated that the situation played out like it did.

"He is trying to sort out a team ethic regarding how these things are done and he feels he has been let down by one of those players."

Wray dismissed suggestions that Di Canio's own future at the club is doubt following the incident.

"If this was an issue with anyone other than Paolo we wouldn't be having this discussion.

"I think it is unfair to pick on the character Paolo because he is in there trying to sort out the situation.

"That is just the headline for a story that is not there. It is not the truth."
