SHRIVENHAM cruised to a welcome win last night to pull away from the relegation places in the Hellenic Premier Division.

John Fisher’s side won 3-0 at Bracknell - a result that leaves the home team rooted to the foot of the table.

Shrivvy dominated throughout but failed to break down the dogged hosts in the first half.

Boss Fisher threw on substitute Steve Robinson and he responded by scoring twice, with Blaine Fitzgerald netting the other fresh from completing a move from Western League Devizes.

Fisher said: “We could easily have been 3-0 up at half time, but we missed chance after chance.

“In the second half we kept up the pressure and we put them away.

“It was an important game to win because this is the first of a run of four games we’ve got against opposition that’s around us in the table.

“I said before that if we can take nine points from these four games it will give us breathing space - if we don’t we could find ourselves in a dogfight.”

Fairford remain one place above rock-bottom Bracknell after losing 2-0 at Thame.

Meanwhile Wootton Bassett’s run in the Floodlit Cup came to an end as an experimental side lost 3-0 at Reading Town, although manager Dave Turner was surprisingly upbeat about the experience, despite his distaste for the tournament.

He said: “I’m not a fan of the competition and that hasn’t changed but it was a very positive experience in the end.

“Three or four of the lads really played well and have given me something to think about.

“Russell Driver was very good, as was Ethan Delaney and Mitch Wyatt was excellent before he had to go off with an injury before half time.”

Turner was also pleased to welcome Alex Green back to the first team. The striker had been on study leave but has re-signed with Bassett and will step into the void left by Sam Collier.

New College also bowed out of the cup, losing 2-1 at Maidenhead.
