DAVE Webb has urged his Highworth players to avoid looking at Bracknell’s recent results ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Larges Lane.
The Robins have lost 13 of their 15 Hellenic Premier games and currently sit at the bottom of the standings, while Highworth are seventh and are therefore favourites to take victory in Berkshire.
But Webb believes his players must adopt a mature state of mind if they are to return down the M4 with three points in the bag.
“Everyone thinks it’s a game we’re going to win,” he said.
“The focus I have to get into the players is that it’s another game and not to look at recent results. We don’t want to be the next team to lose to them.
“The last game they won was Holyport who have beaten some decent sides in this league themselves, and it just goes to show what they are capable of.
Webb added: “We’ve had a break for a couple of weeks in the league and teams have overtaken us. It’s a massive game for us if we’re going to stay in the pack.”
Injury doubts for Highworth are Ryan Thomas (groin) and Johnny Aitkenhead (ankle), while Dan Wallington and Craig Curtis are suspended.
Joe Martin is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, and Ian Ward has army commitments.
Elsewhere, Shrivenham boss John Fisher might have been left purring at Manchester City’s brilliant Champions League football in midweek, but he says his team won’t be trying to imitate it at Ardley tomorrow.
City won 3-0 at Villarreal in a superb display of passing football and Fisher found the constant changing up of player positions irresistible.
But he said: “We won’t be trying any of that player rotation, we have a job understanding 4-4-2 let alone rotating around.
“It’s not going to be the easiest match at Ardley and if we get a point we’ll be happy.”
Fisher is still without a string of players this weekend including the likes of Kev Tate and Dane Moulden.
Meanwhile, Fairford face a difficult meeting with Binfield at Cinder Lane, and manager Paul Braithwaite is hoping to seal a deal for a striker beforehand.
He said: “Binfield will be a tough game but it will be a good way of seeing where we are.”
