WIGAN might be enduring a torrid time in the Premier League this season, but Town left-back Callum Kennedy believes that counts for nothing ahead of the teams’ FA Cup clash tomorrow.

Roberto Martinez’ side are second bottom in the top flight at the halfway point of a season in which they have won just three times in 20 games.

However, Kennedy says it is important to remember that although they are struggling, Wigan are still three leagues above Town and are a part of arguably the most prestigious league in the world, reasoning that trying to take a psychological advantage from the Latics’ misfortune so far in 2011/12 would be a misguided step.

“We know about their quality, obviously they play in the Premier League and are going to be very good players,” he said.

“So we can’t take anything lightly, just because they aren’t necessarily doing so well in the Premier League.

“I don’t think that makes much difference, I’m sure they will be coming here with just as much confidence as we have.

“It will be a tough test for us, but I’m sure if everyone’s at the races and we can get in their faces and press all over the pitch, we can give a good account of ourselves.

“I don’t think there’s any point playing unless we think we can win.”

With Liam Ridehalgh now departed from the County Ground following the conclusion of his loan from Huddersfield, Kennedy has won his place back in the side recently and is relishing being part of a winning setup again.

“It’s a good feeling to be back playing, that’s all I want to be doing, so it’s fantastic, especially coming back into a team that’s full of confidence,” added Kennedy.

“Obviously we’ve won the last two games so it’s a really good feeling.

“When Liam came in and I wasn’t playing, I just tried to keep my head down and train as hard as I could.

“Every day I try and improve and I think as I play more and more games, I feel more and more accustomed and more comfortable.

“Hopefully I can continue to improve.”
