JONATHAN Tehoue has been backed by interim chairman Jeremy Wray to help fire Swindon back into League One after the striker signed on for the rest of the season yesterday.

Paolo Di Canio had been keen to bolster his attacking options since the start of January and he finally brought an end to his search by bringing in Tehoue from League One.

The 27-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, had just started to hold down a regular place in the O’s side and was in the first 11 for their 1-1 draw with Walsall last Saturday.

Town had been monitoring the striker for a while and as soon as they became aware of his availability, they moved quickly to bring him to the County Ground.

And Wray believes the fact Tehoue is fit and ready to play means he can only be an asset in Town’s promotion push.

“He has been on the radar for a while and though we had a number of possibilities Paolo was particularly keen to bring in someone who has been playing regularly,” he told the Advertiser.

“He is excited to be here and from his point of view his contract is coming to an end so he will want to prove himself.

“It is encouraging that he had just forced his way into a League One side, so I am sure he will do well here.”

Tehoue will add a physical presence to the Swindon forward line due and he will also take the pressure off Paul Benson to lead the line in every game.

“Paul has done an excellent job but I think we have all held our breath whenever he has gone down after a heavy challenge,” added Wray.

“Jonathan is the type of striker that he has been looking for and he will give us another option at a crucial point of the season.”

Meanwhile, Wray confirmed that Town’s business in the transfer market may not yet be over, particularly after skipper Paul Caddis hobbled off with an ankle injury against Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday night.

The Scot could be out for around two weeks, but he will have a scan today to assess the damage and judge exactly how long he is expected to be sidelined for.

“We need to look at the extent of his injury and whether it ties in with Aden Flint’s recovery before deciding if we need to bring anyone else in,” added Wray.

“We have cover in most areas but for now we will keep an awareness of the situation.”
