FRATELLOS and Queensfield are set for their second Adver Cup showdown in as many years today and the manager of the former side believes that if they perform to their best then they will take home the silverware.

Anthony Pascarella guided Fratellos to Swindon & District League Premier Division title this year but they are still smarting from their 4-1 defeat to Queensfield last season, in a bizarre match that saw two dismissals and five extra-time goals.

However, Pascarella feels his side can turn the tables on their rivals this time round and get their hands on the trophy at Swindon Supermarine’s Webb’s Wood Stadium (2pm).

“It would be nice to win and hopefully we can do it,” said the boss. “I’m pretty sure that if we play well then we’ll win, but it’s just about doing it on the day.

“We’ve done well this year to be fair. We’ve got a good squad with good players and we definitely deserved to win the league.

“The best team always wins the league but it’s sometimes different in the cup - anything can happen.”

Tomorrow’s game will be an important occasion for Fratellos goalkeeper James Whitlock, who will be hoping to end his final hoodoo.

Whitlock was harshly sent off in last year’s showdown - his second red card in as many Adver Cup finals - and he is likely to play again tomorrow.

“If it happened again it wouldn’t be too good,” joked Pascarella.

Queensfield boss Pete Smith is anticipating that Fratellos will be aiming for vengeance after losing out in the 2010/11 final, abut says his players are ready for the test that awaits them.

He said: “Fratellos will definitely want revenge for last year and we’re definitely underdogs, because they have signed a few players and have got the top goalscorer in the league in Dave Slattery.

“But our defence is still strong and it’s going to have to be, and all the players will have to put 100 per cent in.”

Queensfield may not be the same side they used to be but the spine of the team remains the same, even if Smith will miss out himself due to serious injury.

He added: “We’ve lost a few players this year but the core of the team is still there and Adam and Mikey Jack are still scoring loads of goals for us.

“I’m gutted because I can’t play having broken my leg in a Sunday League game in October - I’ve got bolts and screws in my leg.

“I’m not walking that well yet but hopefully I’ll be back for next season.”

Fratellos romped to a 4-1 victory as the sides met earlier in the season, but the last time they played was in the league nine days ago, when they shared a 1-1 draw.

Smith added: “Fratellos beat us in the league this year but last week we drew, which is a good result going into the final.”

However, Pascarella said he was not reading too much into the stalemate, saying: “We both had different teams out on that day.

“I think we both had players unavailable and I wasn’t going to risk certain players who had played a lot recently, so I shuffled them around.”

Elsewhere, the prelude to the Adver Cup final will see Spectrum take on Old Town United in the George Thomas Cup at 11am.
