THE search for a Town star of the future will begin today as Samsung launches its Win A Pro Contract competition for the third season running.

Past winners include Jordan Pavett and Chris Smith, with the latter signing for Swindon in February and making his first-team debut in the 0-0 draw against Bradford on May 5.

And Smith admitted that scooping the prize at the County Ground had made a huge difference to his career.

“When (Swindon boss) Paolo Di Canio told me I’d won I just couldn’t believe it. I was in shock and didn’t know what to say,” said Smith, who at 21 is one of the younger players in the squad.

“I’ve had the time of my life since joining Swindon. It really is a dream come true.

“I can’t recommend Win A Pro Contract highly enough. The competition changed my life and I’m sure it will do the same for two more lads next season.”

Amateur players of all abilities can enter, with hopefuls will be tested at regional trials and matches as they bid to kick-start their professional dreams.

Regional trials are held at Goals Soccer Centres throughout the UK, where players will be monitored by club scouts and expert talent spotters from FootballCV.

The best players at the trials are chosen for matches at professional and semi-professional club grounds across the country.

The top 11 players are then selected for the final, which will be held at either the County Ground or Leyton Orient’s Matchroom Stadium towards the end of the year, with a deal at the O’s also up for grabs.

After a week in boot camp, a winner will be selected by Di Canio and invited to sign a contract in January 2013.

Di Canio said: “Last season I chose Chris Smith as the winner and he has worked very hard since joining my squad.

“It is a lovely story and that story can continue. He is a good professional already and he has confidence. I am sure he can build his career.

“Next season I hope to find another player with the talent and attitude to join my squad and begin a new life as a professional footballer.”
