A CHARITY match held at the County Ground on Sunday raised over £500 in aid of the Rachel Swindall Trust.
The Trust, set up by parents Liz and Paul and brother Tom in memory of Rachel, who died at the age of 20 in September 2011, intends to fund grants for young people with mental health problems similar to those which affected Rachel during her short life.
The event was organised with the help of Swindon Town Centre of Excellence director Jeremy Newton, with a team of former professionals taking on a side selected by Tom Swindall.
Although the ex-pros claimed a comfortable victory on the day, the real winner was the charity as such a sizeable sum was donated by those involved.
A statement from the Swindall family read: “Liz, Paul and Tom would like to thank everybody who made donations on the day that totalled just over £500, everybody who played and supported the match and a very special mention for Jeremy Newton at Swindon Town Football Club as, without his support and hard work, the day would not have gone ahead at this fantastic venue.”
