JEREMY Wray expects Paolo Di Canio to win another trophy with Swindon Town next year after the Italian was named League Managers Association League Two manager of the year.

Di Canio picked up the award at the LMA’s annual end of season awards dinner at Old Billingsgate in London last night to cap an extraordinary first season in management.

With a League Two title, a Wembley final and a memorable run in the FA Cup all under his belt after less than a year in the County Ground hotseat, the former West Ham forward is fast becoming managerial hot property and many pundits fancy the 43-year-old - who is still negotiating the terms of a new deal at SN1 - to move on in the summer.

However, Town interim chairman Wray, who was at the event with the man he appointed as boss a little under 12 months ago, stressed once again how he expects Di Canio to remain in charge of the Robins next term.

He told the Advertiser: “He’ll be here. This season he’s done a great job but he’s only halfway through.

“I fully expect him to pick up another trophy next year.”

Di Canio saw off competition from fellow nominees Martin Ling of Torquay, Mark Yates of Cheltenham and Graham Turner of Shrewsbury to land the award, which Wray reiterated was richly deserved.

“It’s thoroughly deserved and proper recognition of what he has achieved in his first season in management,” he said.

“He’s been honoured by his fellow professionals and he fully deserves it. “He’s done a fantastic job and seeing everyone stand and applaud him says it all.”
