WESTLECOT men extended their unbeaten run in the Wessex League this season to 10 games as they reached the quarter-finals in the play-offs for the overall Wessex title that they have won four times before.

The east region champions with a 100 per cent nine-game group record, booked their place in the last eight with a 20-shot success as they ran out 87-67 victors over Poole, Dorset side Dolphin last Saturday.

Dolphin IBC won the overall Wessex title in 2010, beat Westlecot in the semi-finals and are due to stage this year’s final in Poole on April 24.

However, Westlecot laid the foundations for the overall victory at home in Old Town as the Mel Biggs’ rink brushed aside their opponents with an awesome display, winning 36-4 and only dropping shots on three ends.

Alongside, Ian Jefferies’ foursome were always in charge of their game, leading from the second end before finally winning 19-16.

In Poole, Westlecot skips Steve Remington and Dave Godwin rallied to reduce their overall combined deficit to only 15 shots which was easily wiped out by the combined home 55-20 success.

Westlecot will now face Cotswold (Stroud) in the quarter-finals tomorrow (Sunday) starting at 10am with two rinks home and two away in Stroud.

The prize is a place in the semi-finals on Saturday, April 9, at either Daventry or East Dorset (Christchurch).
