PURTON will have two teams contesting the ladies’ quarter and semi-finals in the county triples competition today at Wilton.

They will both be bidding to reach the last two and a place in the county final at Supermarine at the end of July, plus the honour of representing Wiltshire in the triples competition at the ladies national championships at Royal Leamington Spa in August.

The combination of Chris Mitchell, Julie Jones and Alison Fail (skip), who knocked out Pewsey in the last round, face Box this morning.

The trio of Judy Preddy, Val Baster and Judith Fish play against a Devizes trio, skipped by Sheila Garlick in the Wilton quarter-finals.

A new combination this season from Stratton Churchway of Josie Lloyd, Wendy Anderson and Janet Willis (skip) have to play another Devizes triple led by skip Sue Ochyra in the last eight at Wilton.

The fourth local side to book a spot in the quarter-finals - the Highworth trio of Maggie Jordan, Joanna Richman and Linda Kingston - are due to meet Amesbury.

The semi-finals will be played this afternoon - the two winners qualifying for the county final and also booking their national place.

THE COUNTY ladies pairs championship began in earnest this week, with first-round matches played on Monday evening and second round games scheduled for last night around the county.

The third round (last 16) will be held on Monday with the four winners in both the northern and southern areas progressing to the quarter and semi-finals next Saturday, June 18 at Holt (10.15am).

On Friday, the quarter and semi-finals in the ladies two-wood singles are planned for Box (5.45pm).

Three local players have qualified for the quarter-finals at Box - Ginny Nash (Royal Wootton Bassett), Joanna Richman (Highworth) and Laura Laytham (Town Gardens).
