THERE was another comprehensive win in the Wessex League over Basingstoke side Loddon Vale as the Westlecot men returned to the top of the east region table.

They thumped the Hampshire side by 41 shots as they ran out 93-52 victors to collect a maximum 16 points and extend their unbeaten run in the east section this season to three matches and go five points clear of Carterton at the summit.

Across the board, Westlecot made a fine start and led Loddon Vale 30-18 after five ends and 48-33 at halfway (nine ends).

They continued to rack up the shots, moving 79-42 clear at 15 ends before extending the advantage finally to 93-52 at 18 ends.

Top rink was the Mel Biggs’ home foursome of Kevin Embling, Geoff Smith, Mike Shawyer and Biggs, who won their game 26-10, while the two away rinks skipped by Steve Remington and Mike Titcombe both won by 11 shots.

PLAYERS from Westlecot dominate the Wiltshire men’s side to face Berkshire in the inter-county championship for the Liberty Trophy in Reading today at Whiteknights IBC (10am).

Thirteen members of the Old Town club are named in the county indoor side to face neighbours Berkshire. Only two of the other indoor clubs in Wiltshire are represented in the 24-strong team, namely Five Rivers (Salisbury) with six players and Christie Miller (Melksham) with five.

The Westlecot players chosen are Craig Morphet, Chris Cheesley (replacing Craig Hatherall unavailable), Mike Richards and Mike Titcombe, who all form one rink, Kevin Embling, Tom Pittuck, Graham Hatherall and Ian Jefferies, who form another rink.

The remaining Westlecot players are Shaun Hicks (replacing Kyle Anderson) Neil Smith (skip), Terry Walton, Steve Remington and Dave Godwin (skip).
