WESTLECOT bounced back splendidly after their surprise loss to Oxford City and County to thrash the other Oxford side District by 61 shots.

However, Swindon Manor were unable to recover from their defeat the previous weekend as they lost to basement side Rivermead by seven shots.

Westlecot were forced into several late changes to their side as they returned to form with a 98-37 success over Oxford and District and collect all 16 points on offer.

The Old Town club made a fine start and had opened up 22-12 lead after five ends before stretching that to 45-22 at the halfway stage.

The advantage was increased to a healthy 77-32 at 15 ends and Westlecot finally won 98-37 at 18 ends.

Mel Biggs’ rink led the scoring spree as they won by 27 shots while the two away rinks skipped by Chris Cheesley and Mike Titcombe both won by 13-shot margins and to complete the whitewash Ian Jefferies won by a comfortable eight shots.

The victory keeps Westlecot eight points clear of Loddon Vale (Basingstoke) and 29 ahead of West Berks in third spot.

Swindon Manor’s late season slump continued as they lost to Rivermead, who claimed their first win of the season.

Manor took the honours on two of the four rinks but lost out on shots going down by seven when losing 69-62.

Manor were always a few shots down across the board from the outset. They trailed 18-15 after five ends and were 33-30 down at halfway (nine ends).

The deficit had increased to seven shots 59-52 after 15 ends and they finally lost by seven 69-62 at 18 ends.

Swindon Manor play West Berks (Newbury) this Sunday and in the last game of the campaign face high-flyers Loddon Vale (Basingstoke).
