The national championships for Westlecot players are really coming to the boil over the next couple of weeks.

In the Area 14 men’s national singles championships, Steve Remington, following his victories over Neil Smith and Ian Jefferies on the way, has reached the area semi-finals and plays Paul Maynard (Foxhill, Aylesbury) today at Oxford City & County (10am).

Chris Cheesley and Neil Smith are through to the area pairs semi-finals and face Brackley’s Alan Dunkley and his partner on February 13 at Oxford C&C.

The Westlecot triple of Kevin Embling, Ian Jefferies and Smith also meet Dunkley’s Brackley in their last four match, while Dunkley and his teammates provide the opposition for Embling, Jefferies, Smith and Cheesley in the area fours semi-final.

In the Over 60s men’s pairs in Area 14 Embling and Hedley Bowen have to play Clive Graves and his partner from Slade (Buckingham) in their area semi-finals in two weeks time.

The O50s triples area semi-final featuring Embling, Jefferies and Smith play Mike Edwards team from Slade at Oxford C&C on Feb 18 (10am).

Westlecot players also still feature heavily in the Area 14 ladies national championship and competition events.

In the ladies singles area semi-final, Lucy Smith plays Carole Galletly (Banbury) on Monday, while Lucy is joined by younger sister Katy have to play Banbury’s Galletly and Kath Hawes in area pairs semi-final next Sunday.

Westlecot trio Jayne Croston, Wendy Anderson and Janet Willis beat Galletly (Banbury) team in area 14 triples semi-finals 18-15 and will now face either a team from Desborough or Egham in the final.

This is just one match away from a place in the last 16 and final stages at Melton & District in late March.

Meanwhile in the fours championship Willis’ team has to play a quartet from Banbury led by Carole Galletly in the area semi-finals today at Oxford C&C .

Willis and Anderson have qualified for the area final in the O60s pairs and will play either a team from Desborough, Maidenhead led by Eileen Devonald-Batt or Doreen Hankin from Egham.

Finally in Area 14, in the family pairs competition, Tom Pittuck and his dad Barry have to play Graham Hatherall and his son Craig in the area semi-finals with the winners advancing to the final against Andy Knapper and his father from Whiteknights, Reading.
