RYAN Martin is determined to make up for lost time and get his pro career motoring after returning to the ring with victory at the Oasis last weekend.

The 20-year-old former England and Walcot ABC boxer brought his eight-month lay-off to an end as he claimed his first stoppage win in the paid ranks, triumphing over Devon debutant Jamie Ingleby on the ‘By Any Means Neccessary’ bill early in the fourth round.

A hand injury had blighted Martin since his win over veteran journeyman Jason Nesbitt in March and the welterweight says that going toe-to-toe with Ingleby felt like his debut all over again.

“I’ve been out for quite a while and I put on a fair bit of weight after the first fight. And I paid for it in that fight, definitely,” said Martin.

“I had to cut some weight over the last couple of days (before the fight) so I felt the energy levels drop in the third round but I got it back in the fourth round, caught him with a couple of shots and went for the finish.

“I definitely thought that there was a chance that, on the judge’s scorecards, they could have had me down because he upped the work-rate and he was working on the inside.

“I know I had to come out in the fourth round and do something special and I got it, so I was happy with it.

“It felt like my debut again. I came out and felt the exact same nerves as the first one.

“But I know where I am now. Hopefully I’ll be out in December, in Bristol – that’s what we’re looking at.

“I don’t know if it’s going to come off 100 per cent but I’m there now and it’s about some more training, keeping the weight off, and I’ll be fitter.

“I want to be as busy as possible. Obviously, I can’t be stupid and try and fight every week but I want to get out there.”
