TARIQ Quaddus will fight for his first title next month against Sam Couzens.

The Swindon-based southpaw tackles the former Kelvin Young foe for the British Masters bronze light-heavyweight title at the Hermitage Leisure Centre, Whitwick, Leicestershire on December 7.

The eight-round contest is undoubtedly a step up in class for the 24-year-old, but Quaddus’ trainer Richard Farnan, who has already plotted Couzens’ downfall once before, believes it is one that his charge can take.

“It is a great fight for Taz,” Farnan said. “Sam’s style is suited to us. He doesn’t try to be negative, tuck up or hide.

“This is chance for Taz to close in on the top 20 which is fantastic progression for him.”

Quaddus and Couzens were set to meet at the Swindon Oasis Leisure Centre earlier this month, but the Titchfield fighter was struggling with a shoulder injury he sustained in his last fight against Chris Hobbs.

“Sam did want to fight in Swindon, but it was right that his trainer wouldn’t let him fight, he was injured,” Farnan said.

“We then tried to get this fight on in Peterborough, but that show got pulled, so we are pleased that we have got it on.”

Tickets for the fight are priced £35 and are available by contacting Farnan on 07876 402224 or Quaddus on 07747 778485.

Meanwhile, the Zero to Hero white collar boxing showing featuring deaf boxer Chris Smith takes places tomorrow at the Oasis Leisure Centre.
