WALCOT fighter Mikey McDonagh will represent the Western Counties Schoolboys in a special match against the North West region near Bristol on Sunday afternoon.
Both regions have picked a select team of ten boxers for the event, which will be held at Cleve Rugby Club, Mangotsfield.
Thirteen-year-old McDonagh encounters Manchester’s Joe McGuiness over three one-and-a-half minute rounds at 38kgs.
“This will be my first contest of the season and I am really looking forward to it,” said McDonagh.
“I have been training hard since September and I feel ready to do well.”
Walcot coach Dave Veysey added: “Mikey is the latest boxer from the star-studded McDonagh family.
“His older brothers Tommy, Patrick, Jimmy and Johnny have all won titles and done our club proud, and I am sure Mikey will soon follow in their footsteps.
“So far he has won four out of six contests, and has only lost narrowly on both occasions to top-ranked boxers.
“He is a great lad in the gym, and all of Walcot ABC wish him well in this important contest.”
The boxing starts at 2pm and spectators can pay at the door.
