TARIQ Quaddus is not going to let outside influences affect his performance in the ring.

The British Masters Bronze light-heavyweight champion makes his first appearance of the year on Friday night when he boxes on the World Awaits show at the Oasis Leisure Centre.

Despite basing himself in Swindon throughout the week for his day job and to train with Richard Farnan, the southpaw returns to Peterborough at the weekends to be with his young family.

And while Quaddus continues to put in the hard work both inside and outside the ring, the 24-year-old just wants to focus on his boxing.

“As long as I’m prepared properly, that is what I have to focus on,” Quaddus said. “It is my job to get myself in condition and fight.

“When I have worried about anything else it has got me stressed out and that is the last thing I want to happen.

“At the moment I train and then go to work for 9.30, I get back at around 5.30 and then hit the gym by 6.30 and then get home at 9 - it takes its toll.

“People who get to train full time do get to have a rest and I don’t get that chance it does take its toll.

“But my job is commission based so if I don’t get any interest then I don’t get any money.”

The talented fighter, who has been getting world class sparring with the likes of Chris Eubank JR, Callum Smith and Friday night’s headline act Eamonn O’Kane, does have the prospect of a big fight on the horizion.

However, Quaddus knows that he cannot look past the durable Mark Till first.

“Every fight is important,” he said. “I can’t focus on anything else.

“If you get too hyped with what is down the line you won’t focus on what is in front of you and if you do that, then you could get found short - that is not what I want.”
