A FOURTH-ROUND stoppage saw Eamonn O’Kane claim the 13th victory of his professional career on Friday 13th.

On his first appearance in Swindon, where he trains under Paddy Fitzpatrick, the 32-year-old Ulsterman came out on the right end of a brutal showdown against Hungarian Southpaw Ferenc Hafner last night.

Hafner was the first to be sent crashing to the canvas in the opening round in a fight that saw eight knockdowns, then in the second round King Kane before firing back to floor his opponent four times in the third.

The war continued on and O’Kane had his opposite number down two more time before the fight was eventually waved off by referee Jeff Hinds a minute and 32 seconds into the fourth round as Hafner was finished off by yet another crunching blow to the body.

It was not the best start to the night for the home fighters as Garvey Kelly was stopped in the sixth round by southpaw Faheem Khan.

Khan had the Swindon welterweight down in the second round with a big left hook and as the contest went in the final round, the Paddy Fitzpatrick-trained boxer started to let his hands go, knowing that he needed a stoppage.

However, as he started to finally find a way through Khan’s guard, the southpaw caught Kelly clean and sent the Swindon man down once more.

Kelly beat the count, but Khan continued to pile on the pressure with his big swinging left hook to send the Swindonian down. Kelly got back to his feet again but the Exeter man was relentless and Hinds had seen enough to stop the fight with one minute 46 seconds of the final gone.

Afterwards, Ryan Martin improved his record to three wins from three with a classy performance against the durable veteran Kevin McCauley.

The former Walcot and England amateur put in some spiteful shots and looked control throughout as he waltzed his way to a 40-36 decision, his third win from as many professional contests.

Tariq Quaddus rise up the ranks continued as he dominated an uncultured but highly entertaining Gilson De Jesus.

The Swindon-based light-heavyweight was not fazed by the Angolan’s antics, which included all manner of shimmies and taunts, to take a 60-54 decision.

Danny Bharj made a successful move into the pro ranks with a comfortable points decision over Dean Evans.

The former England and Walcot amateur had not boxed for four years before last night but he showed plenty of class.

He did have to suffer a big attack from his Hereford opponent in the latter stages of the fight but Bharj took the verdict after six two-minute rounds with a 59-56 decision.
