LUKE Watkins eased to a third stoppage win of his career as he knocked out Hungarian Jeno Markhot in the third round on last night’s ‘World Awaits’ bill at the Oasis Leisure Centre.

After a cagey opening session, the 25-year-old looked good in the second and had his opponent cut with a lovely right over the top.

Watkins went in the third and had Markhot bloody mess before sending him crashing to the canvas with a stinging straight right.

Referee Jeff Hinds had seen enough to pull the Hungarian out after one minute 32 seconds.

“I’m pleased with that,” Watkins told the Advertiser.

“I love boxing in Swindon and I’m pleased 0to have put on a show.

“It was a performance, I feel high on life after that win and now we will sit down with my coach (Paddy Fiztpatrick) and see where we go next.”

Kelvin Young was left scratching his head as to how he walked away with a draw with Joe Walsh.

It was a comfortable couple opening rounds for the Penhill pugilist as he looked to shake off the effects of his punishing defeat to Kiril Psonko last November.

But this was far from vintage from Young.

Walsh made life extremely difficult for the 27-year-old get to his normally fluid jab working and referee Hinds had to call the two men together to try and sort what becoming a scrappy contest.

Young, now with a new team behind him, was now starting to hold Walsh on the blindside and received a warning from Hinds in the fourth.

The fifth saw Young try to establish that silky jab and for the most it was working well, but to get into range, he had to walk through several good shots from the Croydon fighter.

At times, Young was losing the exchanges on the inside, but after he got the ranging jab working but he was left as one half of a 57-57 stalemate.

“I thought that I had done enough to win the fight,” he said afterwards. “You are only as good as your last fight and I lost my last one.

“There were improvements and I have only been with my new team for six weeks – there is plenty more to come.

“Now that this fight is over I can start to think about Chris Hobbs, and you will see an even better performance.”
