LAWRENCE Bennett is not paying any attention to Jamie Hearn’s spectacular knockout of Larry Olubamiwo.

The self-styled ‘Bad Boy’ heads to York Hall on Friday night to defend his Southern Area cruiserweight title against the out-spoken former MMA star Hearn, whose last fight in March last year was against the once-invincible ‘War Machine’.

However, Olubamiwo, who was knocking out virtually all that stood in his way, admitted to taking 13 banned substances in 2011.

The London heavyweight was subsequently handed a four-year ban, which was lifted in 2013, and since his return, he has become nothing more than a punchbag.

Hearn, who was stopped by former light-heavyweight world champion Chad Dawson in 2006, feels that his knockout of the War Machine in just 117 seconds shows that he will have too much for the Swindon champ.

However, Bennett said: “Knocking out big Larry, is that his greatest claim to fame? Look at Larry’s record. Who has he beat since coming off the juice?

“Look at my record. I have fought guys with winning records and won.

“He has not been the same since he came back from his drugs ban.”

Bennett feels that his wins over Jack Morris and Chris Keane show that he is on a higher level than his challenger and is not concerned by his record.

“At the end of the day, we are all big punchers at this weight,” Bennett said.

“In my last fight, I beat Chris Keane - Chrissy Keane beats this guy every single day of the week.

“Chris Keane has knocked out better people than Jamie Hearn and I beat him.

“They said that Chris Keane was a massive puncher and he did catch me a couple of times but I stood there and took it. Can Jamie Hearn go the 10 rounds? I’m not so sure.

“I was more worried about the Chris Keane fight than I am about this fight.”

Meanwhile, Kelvin Young could join Ryan Martin. Danny Bharj and Tariq Quaddus on Keith Mayo’s Gloucester show next month after his British Masters Bronze light-heavyweight title fight was called off.

Young was set to meet Chris Hobbs in Portsmouth on March 28 but the Southampton fighter dislocated his shoulder.

The show at the GL1 Leisure Centre will take place on Saturday, April 18.
