JAMIE Cox says that he will be fighting for a title when he boxes at the York Hall next month.

The 28-year-old, who spent two months in America this spring sparring the likes of Mexican star Saul Alvarez, is set to appear on a Frank Warren-promoted show on Friday, July 17.

The Swindon southpaw, who moved up to middleweight this year, says that he will be fighting for a title from one of the four major world governing bodies - IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO.

“I can’t say too much at the moment, but it will be for a title from one of the major governing bodies,” Cox told the Advertiser.

“I think that Frank (Warren) will release all the details (this) week, but he has really pulled it out the bag for this one.

“It’s an opportunity that was too good to turn down.

“I’ve got this fight in July that will put me right in the mix and then I’ll be fighting again in September, which will be the biggest fight of my life.”

Cox also said that talks are still ongoing with promoters in America about a potential deal after Al Haymon, Golden Boy and Top Rank all expressed an interest in the 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medallist.

“There have been talks with my manager Lee Beard, but at the minute I’ve got this opportunity with Frank,” the undefeated former Commonwealth light-middleweight champion said.

“Training for this fight in July has been going really well. I sparred 10 rounds with an up-and-coming light-heavyweight prospect on Monday.

“I’m looking forward to this fight and then fighting again in September.”

Cox made his long-awaited return to the ring in February when he stopped Alistair Warren in just two-and-a-half minutes.

That bout at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall was his first bout in 20 months.

Since then, there has been talk of potential clashes with the Paddy Fitzpatrick-trained Eamonn O’Kane and Trowbridge’s newly-crowned British champion Nick Blackwell.
