‘WHY wait till the summer? Ryan Martin will knock Garvey Kelly out in February.’ That is message from Martin’s new trainer Richard Farnan after Paddy Fitzpatrick called for Swindon’s two welterweights to meet in the summer.

Farnan, who has taken over as the unbeaten prospect’s coach on a permanent basis following his stunning second round knock-out of Linas Meistavicius earlier this month, has told Kelly’s trainer that they want the fight to happen sooner rather than later.

The Horseshoe Gym trainer believes that the 21-year-old will have too much power the Fitzpatrick-trained boxer and predicts that the fight won’t last three rounds.

“Let’s look at February,” Farnan said. “Where is your money Paddy? Ryan Martin-Garvey Kelly, Southern Area title, let’s get it on.

“I love Garvey to bits, Paddy is great. But Paddy has been talking about this fight for a year or so.

“Let’s not wait till the summer. February, Southern Area title, in Swindon, Ryan versus Garvey.

“You wait for Ryan to knock Garvey out cold in three rounds.”

But given the nature of how Martin destroyed Meistavicius in Gloucester, Farnan does not think that the local derby will materialise.

“I don’t think they will put their money where their mouth is. I don’t think the fight will happen,” Farnan said.

“I think Paddy will want to keep Garvey away from Ryan. Let’s see. That is the fight we want.

“Paddy has been calling for it. Paddy hasn’t been called out yet – I’m calling him out. February; let’s get on. I’m not waiting till the summer. We will be way beyond Garvey by the summer. February is perfect.”

Martin returned to the gym this week as he started preparations for his Challenge title fight with Faheem Khan on the Lights Out show at the Oasis Leisure Centre on October 24.

And Farnan has already lined-up some hard sparring for the rising prospect and feels that Martin will shine against the hard-hitting southpaw like the he did against Meistavicius.

“We have got sparring with Sam Eggington coming up in a couple of weeks (ahead of his fight with Frankie Gavin) - that is going to be a real hard spar for him which is fantastic.

“I have got a couple of tall rangy southpaws coming to spar with Ryan so, Faheem, I hope you are watching this (Mestavicius knock-out) because that is what is going to happen on October 24.”
