RYAN Martin knows he can’t cannot afford to make any mistakes on Saturday night when he meets Faheem Khan.

The Swindon welterweight fights the Exeter-based southpaw for a Challenge title at the Oasis Leisure Centre on the Lights Out show.

But Martin, who was in brutal form in his last outing at the GL1 Leisure Centre in Gloucester in September as he stopped Linas Meistavicius in two rounds, knows that Khan will punish any mistakes.

The Devon man's last trip to Swindon saw him stop the Paddy Fitzpatrick-trained Garvey Kelly with some heavy shots.

And while 21-year-old Martin, who is now trained by Richard Farnan, believes he is technically the better boxer, he is not taking his opponent, who himself was stopped in two rounds back in July against Georgie Kean, for granted.

“People are writing him off. They are saying 'Ryan is going to do this, Ryan is going to that',” he said.

“At the end of the day, if you make a mistake, he will make you pay. He is a strong guy.

“I think that I am the superior boxer, but he is tough and game and has a winning record.

“These are the type of fights that I need at the minute.”

Martin will go into the fight against Khan full of confidence after he ruthlessly took apart Meistavicius and because the Lithuanian was a late replacement for that fight, the former junior ABA champion says that he full focused for a man he knew little about.

“I didn’t know what to expect from him (Meistavicius),” Martin said.

“I saw that he had a fighting background – kick-boxing I think – and he came to boxing and he won his one fight by stoppage.

“But I had never seen anything of his fights. The first time I saw him was in the ring that night.

“So in my head, he was dangerous. I was focused and ready to do some damage and in the first round, I started to catch him with big shots. I saw he didn’t like it and I got him out in the second round.”
