SWINDON’S Danny Bharj is ready to hit the road when he goes out in search of his next slice of success.

The 27-year-old clinched the third victory of his professional career as he came through a tricky light-welterweight contest against awkward former English title challenger Liam Richards at the Oasis Leisure Centre last weekend.

All three of Bharj’s pro victories have come with the Horseshoe Gym man operating as the home fighter but for his next outing, the two-time junior ABA champion could be an away challenger on Goodwin Promotions’ December 5 bill at London’s famous York Hall, which is topped by three Southern Area title contests.

“Next, we’re looking to try and get on December 5 at York Hall maybe - as an away fighter,” said Bharj.

“We’ve had a hard training camp but we’re going to get straight back on it to step up to six rounds next time. And then the next one after that will hopefully be a title fight in Gloucester next year – that’s what we’re aiming for.”

Bharj, who trains under Richard Farnan, may have taken a comfortable points decision over Melksham’s Richards, but the former Walcot amateur admits that the fight was far from straightforward.

“The last opponent (Ibrar Riyaz) came to fight and was coming forward but Richards was just slippery and boxing on the back foot – maybe like my style,” he said.

“Maybe for 30 seconds, I started dancing and luring him in, and I looked class for that 30 seconds, but chasing him down is not my game.

“But that’s just part of the game. You’ve got to learn different things. We were practicing moving forward and I caught him with some good shots and won every round, so I’m happy about that.

“Overall, I’m happy with the win. It was against an awkward guy and not my best performance but sometimes you don’t look good against certain boxers.’’
