JAMIE Cox will look to continue his vicious assault of the super-middleweight division when he returns to the ring in February.

The reigning WBO European champion says that he has been added to the undercard of Terry Flanagan’s WBO world lightweight title defence against Derry Mathews at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Saturday, February 13.

The Swindon southpaw has remained in the gym since his 68-second demolition job of Ferenc Albert last month in Dublin – his third successive first-round knockout in 2015.

With promoter Frank Warren petitioning the British Boxing Board of Control to have the 29-year-old made mandatory for Callum Smith’s Lonsdale belt, the unbeaten former Commonwealth light-middleweight champion is looking forward to another successful year.

“We are back in the gym and I’m working hard with my trainer John Costello and my strength and conditioning coach Des Witter,” Cox told the Advertiser.

“I’m going to be back out on February 13 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool and I can’t wait.

“I had a great 2015 and want to keep building on that next year.

“It doesn’t matter who I fight – I’ll leave that to John and my manager Lee Beard – they will get the same treatment as my last three opponents.”

When Cox returned to the ring in February after a 20-month hiatus, he quickly dispatched Alistair Warren in two-and-a-half minutes in Wolverhampton.

He then faced Spain's Blas Miguel Martinez for the WBO European belt at Wembley Arena in July, where the 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medallist took just 134 seconds to claim his second professional title.

The former Walcot and England ace saved his devastating best for last as he quickly got rid of Albert, flooring the Hungarian twice to secure a world ranking of fourth with the WBO and 13th with the WBA.
