RICHARD Farnan is looking forward to a stellar 2016 with Kelly Morgan following her stunning success over Szilvia Szabados.

The Swindon-based 2002 Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist installed herself as the new Women’s International Boxing Association’s world number two middleweight with her 59-55 success over the Hungarian.

But Morgan could also see herself replace Szabados as the WBC number four, the WBA number seven and the WBF’s number three when their rankings are updated.

The former England netball international has stated that she would prefer a shot at becoming a super-middleweight world champion first, with WBC champion Nikki Adler her target.

But both Morgan and Farnan are keen for the 35-year-old former army physical trainer to have one more fight before any potential shot at a world title.

“On the performance of Sunday night, Kelly is ready (for a world title shot),” Farnan said.

“There are things that we do need to work on, but if she keeps learning as quickly as she does then it won’t be long before that title shot can happen.

“If someone offered us a chance at the world title tomorrow, of course we would take it.

“Kelly opened a lot of people’s eyes on Sunday with her performance and we are in store for an incredible 2016.”

With Morgan looking to step up to the 12-stone division, a potential opponent for her could be Elene Sikmashvili.

The former ABA runner-up was scheduled to face the Georgian back in October before Morgan ended up facing Melinda Lazar.

However, while Sikmashvili is now ranked lower than Morgan by most organisations, the Georgian holds a number two ranking with the WBA at super-middleweight.

“There is a show in Gloucester in February that Kelly could fight on, but that will be four tough camps back to back,” Farnan said.

“But there is also show in Swindon on March 5 which I think would be more likely, but at the moment I don’t know when or who she will be fighting.”
