RICHARD Farnan says that he is massively excited by the opportunities that are arising for Kelly Morgan.

The 2002 Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist, who has only had three professional fights, is heading out to Mexico at the end of the month to attend the World Boxing Council’s Female Convention after raising £2,000 in less than three days to send her to Tijuana.

With the WBC prepared to sanction the 35-year-old to fight for their vacant Silver middleweight belt in their next bout, the former England netball international is potentially one fight away for a world title.

Her trainer Farnan, who will be heading out to Mexico with Morgan, is excited for the future.

“It hasn’t quite sunk in yet,” he said. “This is such a big opportunity to be heading out to Mexico and we can’t thank everyone enough for their support.

“This is huge – the green belt sits up their as the best and potentially Kelly is just one fight away from a world title.

“We have been looking at opponents for March where she will likely fight for the WBC Silver title.”

Should Morgan, who was a former ABA runner-up, claim the Silver belt, the WBC could then sanction a bout for the former Senior Sergeant in the Army Physical Corps to fight for the vacant world middleweight title.

“It is all very exciting,” added Farnan, who guided Penhill’s Kelvin Young to the IBO inter-continental super-middleweight title in December 2013.

“This trip could be massive for Kelly’s career.

“If she won the belt and the WBC order it, then Kelly could be fighting for a world title before the summer break in June or July.

“I have only been a professional boxing coach for a short time and this would be the second major belt that I have been a coach for, with Kelvin’s IBO belt.”

Having burst on to the professional boxing scene last July with a 94 second demolition job of Klaudia Vigh in July, Morgan, who in her last fight defeated former world title challenger and WBC world number four Szilvia Szabados, is now starting to garner national attention.

“There is a small bit going in Boxing News about Kelly and we are talking to Sky Sports News about doing something on their Sports Women section,” added the trainer.

“This is all great exposure for Kelly and it has just been amazing to see how she has come from fighting the occasional white collar contest to a fighting for a WBC Silver belt in less than a year.”
