KELLY Morgan says that she can finally start to put a spring of disappointment behind her after being given a new date for her much-anticipated WBC Silver middleweight clash.

The 35-year-old was set to meet Ghanaian Gifty Ankrah at the Oasis Leisure Centre back in March.

However, visa problems and other issues meant that the KM Promotions show had to be cancelled just five days before fight night.

With weeks of hard work down the drain and a feeling of bitter disappointment, Morgan says that she hasn’t fully got over what had happened.

But with Neilson Boxing staging their first show on June 10 at the Grange Drive Leisure Centre, the 2002 Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist, who will top the bill on the New Beginning show, is finally looking forward and not at what might have been.

“It is great that the date has finally been confirmed,” Morgan told the Advertiser. “We’ve been hopeful that this would come, but to get it all sorted is fantastic.

“I’m not fully over what happened in March, but now we can do it again and I’m so grateful.”

After a short break following the cancellation of the March show, the former England netball international, who heads out to Sweden this weekend to watch sparring partner and friend Mikeala Lauren defend her WBC world super-welterweight title, says that she has been in camp for three weeks.

“When the fight got cancelled (trainer) Rich (Farnan) got in touch with the WBC almost immediately,” said Morgan, who hopes to become the number one contender for the world title if she beats Ankrah. “They agreed to keep the (Silver) belt vacant.

“The Neilsons then got involved and started to arrange their first show and they wanted to have the fight on the bill.

“Having it back at Grange brings back happy memories for me as that is where I beat Szilvia (Szabados, last December). But to be honest I’d happily have the fight with Gifty in a car park just as long as we got it on.”

Tickets for the show are priced £35 standard and £60 ringside and will be available from www.kellymorganboxing.co.uk
